The 2000 Hockenheim Finale Race 2, otherwise known as the ADAC-Preis Hockenheim 2000 Heat 2, was the sixteenth and final race of the 2000 DMSB Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters Championship, staged at the Hockenheimring in Hockenheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany on 29 October 2000.[1] The race saw Uwe Alzen sweep to his third victory of the campaign, as Bernd Schneider was officially crowned as Champion.[2]
Background[]
Bernd Schneider had arrived in Hockenheim as the Champion, although that did not stop the German ace extending his Championship lead to 59 points over Manuel Reuter. Reuter himself had secured the runner-up spot with a race to spare, while Klaus Ludwig found himself in a fight for third with teammate Marcel Fässler. Those two were split by six points midway through the final day, while Joachim Winkelhock was set to finish in fifth ahead of Uwe Alzen.
In the Teams' Championship D2 AMG-Mercedes were on the verge of taking the title, having moved onto 270 points for the campaign. That left them 32 ahead of sister squad Warsteiner AMG-Mercedes in second, who could only deny D2 AMG the title if they scored a one-two in the Finale, while D2 AMG failed to score. They would instead face a battle with Opel Team Phoenix for third, with the Opel backed squad just a point behind.
