The 2000 Hockenheim Opening Race 2, otherwise known as the Rennsport-Festival 2000 Race 2, was the second round of the 2000 DMSB Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters Championship, staged at the Hockenheimring in Hockenheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany on 28 May 2000.[1] The race would see Bernd Schneider secure his second victory of the day from pole position, fending off a challenge from Klaus Ludwig and Marcel Tiemann.[2]
Background[]
Bernd Schneider emerged with the Championship lead after the opening round, scoring 20 points after his opening day dominance. Marcel Fässler was second, five behind, while Manuel Reuter, Timo Scheider and Peter Dumbreck completed the early top five. The other scorers were Marcel Tiemann, Thomas Jäger, Michael Bartels, Klaus Ludwig and Joachim Winkelhock had also secured points on the opening day.
In the Teams' Championship it was D2 AMG-Mercedes whom led the charge after the opening bout, having claimed 24 points across the opening day. Warsteiner AMG-Mercedes were next up in second on 17, two ahead of Opel Team Phoenix in third. Original Teile AMG-Mercedes and the two Opel Team Holzer squads completed the scorers.

Bernd Schneider left Hockenheim with a perfect tally of 40 points after his two victories, putting him ten ahead of Marcel Fässler. The Swiss racer himself had a ten point margin over Timo Scheider in third, while Peter Dumbreck had risen to fourth on sixteen points. Michael Bartels and Manuel Reuter were next up with fifteen and twelve points respectively, with thirteen drivers on the scoresheet.
D2 AMG-Mercedes led the charge in the Teams' Championship after the opening day, leaving Hockenheim on 40 points. Warsteiner AMG-Mercedes were next up on 34 points, while Opel's challenge was led by Opel Team Phoenix. Next up was Opel Team Holzer II in fourth ahead of Original Teile AMG-Mercedes, with eight teams out of eleven having scored.
