2000 Oschersleben II Race 2 | 2000 Nürburgring II Race 2 |
The 2000 Nürburgring II Race 1, otherwise known as the Eifelrennen 2000 Heat 1, was the thirteenth race of the 2000 DMSB Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters Championship, staged at the Nürburgring GP-Strecke in Nürburg, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany on 8 October 2000.[1] The race would see Manuel Reuter secure victory after being allowed to pass teammate Joachim Winkelhock, denying Bernd Schneider his first chance to secure the title.[2]
Background[]
The results of the fourth Oschersleben race had proved significant in terms of the Championship, for it had left Bernd Schneider on the verge of the Championship crown. Indeed, the German racer would win the title at the following 2000 Nürburgring II Race 1 if he outscored Klaus Ludwig and Manuel Reuter by just a single point, while those two would need to win three races just to get back on terms with Schneider. Those three were also the only title pretenders left with four races to go, with fourth placed Marcel Fässler 98 points behind.
D2 AMG-Mercedes had moved back to the top of the Championship after Schneider's sixth win, claiming their 214th point of the campaign. They had moved nine ahead of sister squad Warsteiner AMG-Mercedes, while Opel Team Phoenix had retained third on 178. Original Teile AMG-Mercedes and Opel Team Holzer I completed the top five, with all eleven teams leaving Oschersleben with points on the board.

- Italics indicate that a driver set fastest lap.
Milestones[]
- Third career victory for Manuel Reuter.
- Phoenix Racing registered their third win as an entrant.
- Opel secured their fifth victory as a manufacturer.
Standings[]
Bernd Schneider had been denied the chance to claim the title at the first heat of the Eifelrennen, but would head into the second race of the day with a 54 point lead. That meant that he was all but certain to take the crown, needing just a sixth place finish in the final three races to secure the title. Manuel Reuter hence would have to have three perfect races in order to deny Schneider the crown, and was now the only driver who could defeat the 1995 Champion.
In the Teams' Championship it was D2 AMG-Mercedes who led the charge, having moved onto 233 points for the season. Warsteiner AMG-Mercedes were their closest challengers in second on 215, while Opel Team Phoenix were a further eleven behind. Elsewhere, Opel Team Holzer I had moved up to fourth, while Original Teile AMG-Mercedes had made way for them and slipped to fifth.
