The 2000 Nürburgring I Race 2, otherwise known as the Großer Preis der Tourenwagen 2000 Heat 2, was the tenth race of the 2000 DMSB Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters Championship, staged at the Nürburgring in Nürburg, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany on 20 August 2000.[1] The race would see Bernd Schneider secure his fifth DTM victory of the campaign to enhance his Championship lead, as rain once again swept across the Eifel Mountains.[2]

Background[]

Bernd Schneider had enhanced his Championship lead as the season reached its halfway point, moving 37 points clear at the head of the hunt. Klaus Ludwig had moved into second with 89 points, while Manuel Reuter had slipped to third, two behind the veteran. Marcel Fässler was next up in fourth ahead of Joachim Winkelhock, with no new names added to the scoresheet.

In the Teams' Championship it was still Warsteiner AMG-Mercedes whom led the charge, and had enhanced their lead to five points. D2 AMG-Mercedes were their closest challengers on 156, while Opel Team Phoenix had retained third with 130. Original Teile AMG-Mercedes and Opel Team Holzer I then completed the top five, while the two Abt Sportsline teams remained pointless.
