The 2000 Norisring Race 1, otherwise known as the ADAC Norisring Trophäe 2000 Heat 1, was the fifth race of the 2000 DMSB Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters Championship, staged at the Norisring in Nuremburg, Bavaria, Germany, on 9 July 2000.[1] The race would see Joachim Winkelhock secure his maiden DTM victory from pole position, as Manuel Reuter secured the Championship lead.[2]
Background[]
It was a dead heat atop the Championship as the second race weekend of the DTM came to a close, with Bernd Schneider and Manuel Reuter level on 52 points, with two wins apiece. Indeed, Schneider was only considered to be ahead on countback due to having a twelfth place finish as opposed to a thirteenth place finish for Reuter, while Marcel Fässler was third on 44. Joachim Winkelhock and Timo Scheider completed the top five, while Uwe Alzen had added his name to the scorers' list.
In the Teams' Championship it was still D2 AMG-Mercedes who held the initiative after four races, although their advantage had been reduced to five points. Opel Team Phoenix were their closest challengers in second, while Warsteiner AMG-Mercedes had moved back up to third on 51 points, 21 behind their sister squad. The two Opel Team Holzer squads were next up to complete the top five, with no further names added to the scoresheet.

- Team Holzer recorded their maiden victory as an entrant.
- Third win for Opel as a manufacturer.

Standings[]
Manuel Reuter became the first driver other than Bernd Schneider to head the Championship, moving two ahead of his compatriot to secure the lead. Those two were five ahead of Joachim Winkelhock, fresh from his maiden victory, before a thirteen point gap back to Marcel Fässler in fourth. Timo Scheider then completed the top five, Klaus Ludwig had moved into the top ten, with no new names on the scoresheet.
In the Teams' Championship Opel Team Phoenix had moved to the top of the pack with 87 points, meaning they had overhauled D2 AMG-Mercedes for the first time. However, the Mercedes backed squad were only a point behind the Opel leaders, while Warsteiner AMG-Mercedes were only ten further behind in third. Opel Team Holzer I, meanwhile, moved ahead of their sister squad Opel Team Holzer II, while both Abt Sportsline teams remained pointless.
