The ADAC-Preis Sachsenring 2000 Heat 1, otherwise known as the 2000 Sachsenring Race 1, was the seventh race of the 2000 DMSB Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters Championship, staged at the Sachsenring in Hohenstein-Ernstthal, Saxony, Germany, on 6 August 2000.[1] The race would see 50 year old Klaus Ludwig secure his maiden DTM triumph since the series was reborn, having led from pole position.[2]
Background[]
Bernd Schneider would leave the Norisring with the lead in the Championship, having climbed back ahead of Manuel Reuter to head the hunt. Those two were separated by three points at the end of the weekend, while Joachim Winkelhock had risen to third with 67 points. Next up were Marcel Fässler and Klaus Ludwig to complete the top five, with no new names on the score sheet after the sixth race of the season.
In the Teams' Championship it was Opel Team Phoenix who had ascended to the top of the pack after the trip to Nuremburg, having moved onto 110 points. Former leaders D2 AMG-Mercedes had slipped four behind the Opel backed squad, while Warsteiner AMG-Mercedes had retained third on 82. The two Opel Team Holzer squads were next up, with no further additions to the scoresheet after the battles around the Norisring.
