The ADAC-Preis Sachsenring 2000 Heat 2, otherwise known as the 2000 Sachsenring Race 2, was the eighth race of the 2000 DMSB Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters Championship, staged at the Sachsenring in Hohenstein-Ernstthal, Saxony, Germany on 6 August 2000.[1] The race would see Klaus Ludwig sweep to his second and final DTM victory, as the race distance was reduced to 80 km due to tyre issues in the First Heat.[2]
Background[]
Bernd Schneider's fifth podium finish of the campaign had left the German racer on his own at the head of the Championship hunt, having opened out a fifteen point lead. Manuel Reuter had retained his status in second place ahead of Joachim Winkelhock, while racer winner Klaus Ludwig had jumped into fourth. He hence moved ahead of his teammate Marcel Fässler, while Christian Menzel had added his name to the scoresheet in sixteenth.
In the Teams' Championship it was D2 AMG-Mercedes who led the charge after the seventh round, having moved back ahead of Opel Team Phoenix. Those two were split by two points, while Warsteiner AMG-Mercedes had closed in after Ludwig's win, moving onto 103 points. Opel Team Holzer I were next up, while Original Teile AMG-Mercedes had been the day's biggest scorers as they moved into fifth.
