The 2019 Misano Race 2, otherwise known as the DTM Misano 2019 Race 2, was the sixth race of the 2019 DMSB Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters Championship, staged at the Misano World Circuit in Misano Adriatico, Emilia-Romagna, Italy, on 9 June 2019.[1] The race would see Nico Müller secure his second DTM victory in three years, as Championship leader René Rast suffered a puncture and dropped down the order.[2]
Audi carried on their fine form from Saturday with another dominant display in qualifying, with Rast leading an all-Audi quintet to the top of the grid ahead of Robin Frijns.[3] The first non-Audi on the grid would be Marco Wittmann of BMW in sixth, while the four Aston Martins qualified at the back of the field.[3]
Frijns made the best start and sprinted ahead of Rast, who also found himself being squeezed between Nico Müller and Jonathan Aberdein through the first corner.[2] The rest of the field would get through the first corner unscathed, with Wittmann managing to get onto the back of Rast, while the Astons remained at the tail of the field.[2]
Rast and Wittmann would subsequently tangle at turn eight, with Wittmann trying a lunge around the outside of Rast at turn eight, before the #33 Audi was tapped by Aberdein inside of him.[2] That contact pushed Rast into Wittmann as they rounded the corner, a collision which broke the #11 BMW's steering and hence sent Wittmann skating into the gravel.[2]
Wittmann was out on the spot, although his car was retrieved without the intervention of the Safety Car, while Rast escaped punishment due to Aberdein's involvement.[2] Instead, the German racer would rally back, claiming third from Aberdein and second from Müller, before diving past Frijns on lap nine to secure the lead.[2]
Rast quickly pulled clear as Frijns' race took a nose dive, with quick-fire moves from Müller and Loïc Duval to slip to fourth.[2] Duval then tapped Frijns into a spin after the Dutchman briefly managed to get back ahead, resulting in the Frenchman being slapped with a drive-through penalty.[2]
Out front, meanwhile, Rast seemed to be en-route to victory, only for a puncture early on lap 14 to see him lose a lot of time as he crawled back to the pits.[2] He duly slipped down the field as he served his mandatory stop, although he still had enough speed to keep ahead of Philipp Eng when the Austrian made his stop from fifth.[2]
The rest of the leaders made their stops soon after, with Müller emerging in the lead, while Rast got tripped up lapping Duval and hence slipped behind Eng.[2] They ran on in the lead, Frijns dived past Pietro Fittipaldi for fourth, while Andrea Dovizioso had a spectacular series of spins at turn sixteen and rejoined.[2]
With that the race was over, with Müller sweeping clear to secure his first victory since 2016, beating Eng by seven seconds.[2] Rast was a lonely third after flat-spotting his tyres, while Frijns and Fittipaldi completed the top five.[2] Joel Eriksson, Aberdein, Spengler, Sheldon van der Linde and Mike Rockenfeller completed the scorers, with none of the Astons making it into the points.[2]
Background[]
René Rast claimed the lead in the Drivers' Championship after the fifth race of the season, moving onto 75 points for the season. Marco Wittmann would also move up the field to claim second, as former leader Philipp Eng slipped to third, ten off the lead. Nico Müller was next up ahead of Mike Rockenfeller, while Jonathan Aberdein was off the foot of the table after his first points of the season.
In the Teams' Championship BMW Team RMG would open the Misano weekend with the Championship lead, moving onto 104 points after five races. Their closest challengers were former leaders Team Rosberg, who slipped four behind, while Team Phoenix completed the top three. Elsewhere, Audi had extended their lead in the Brands Championship ahead of BMW, while Aston Martin had failed to score for the second race in succession.

- 3 Indicates a driver was awarded points for qualifying in the top three.[4]
- Bold indicates a driver started from pole.
- Italics indicate that a driver set fastest lap.
Milestones[]
- Second win for Nico Müller.
- Also Müller's first win since the 2016 Norisring Race 2.
- Müller claimed his tenth podium finish.
Standings[]
René Rast had retained the lead in the Drivers' Championship as the third round of the season came to its conclusion, moving onto 93 points. That translated to a ten point advantage over second placed Philipp Eng, while Nico Müller had moved into third on 76 points. Marco Wittmann, meanwhile, had slipped to fourth having failed to score, slipping 25 off the lead, with everyone bar guest racer and debutante Andrea Dovizioso on the board.
Audi Team Rosberg would leave Misano in command of the Teams' Championship, holding 128 points after six races. Their closest challengers were stablemates Audi Team Abt, while BMW Team RMG were in third, twenty off the lead. Audi would hence lead the Brands' Championship with 340 points, BMW were second on 263, while Aston Martin were a lonely third on 15.
