Esmee Hawkey (born 2 March 1998 in Chislehurst, London, UK) is a British racing driver who competes for T3 Motorsport in the 2021 DMSB Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters Championship.[1] A familiar figure in the DTM paddock after her campaign in the 2019 W Series, Hawkey was a late addition to the DTM after T3 made the late decision to add a second car to their entry on the eve of the opening round in Monza.[1]

Background[]

Hawkey began karting at the age of ten, competing for six seasons until she secured a part-time seat in the Ginetta Junior Championship for the 2014 season.[2] Her first partial season saw her race in six races, claiming fifteenth in two races, before securing a full-time seat for 2015.[2] Unfortunately Hawkey's first full season of car racing was not a fruitful one, being one of only two full-time drivers not to score at all.[2]

Porsche Performance: 2016 - 2019[]

2016 saw Hawkey move into the United Kingdom GT Cup – GT4 for Porsches, and duly impressed by claiming second in the Championship in her maiden campaign.[2] She remained in the GT Cup in 2017, without repeating her former success, before moving into the Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain in the Pro-Am class for 2018.[2] Fifth in her class saw Hawkey retain her Porsche GB seat for the 2019 season, and duly improved to third in the Championship.[2]

The 2019 season would also see Hawkey race in the W Series, although a difficult season saw the Brit only claim two points and hence miss an automatic spot on the W Series grid for the delayed 2021 season.[2]

DTM History[]

Hawkey's addition to the 2021 DMSB Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters Championship grid came at the very last minute before the season, after T3 Motorsport were granted permission to expand their entry to two cars.[1] Taking over their second #26 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo for the season opening 2021 Monza Race 1, Hawkey would impress by qualifying in midfield for the season opener despite having missed all of pre-season testing.[3] Unfortunately for Hawkey she would fall away during the race, finishing fifteenth, with a similarly disappointing run to seventeenth in the Second Race.[4]
