Esteban Ocon (born 17 September 1996 in Évreux, Normandy, France) is a French racing driver, who competed in the 2016 DMSB Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters Championship on behalf of ART Grand Prix.[1] A long-standing member of the Mercedes-Benz Junior Team, Ocon would only complete half of his debut season, before leaving the series to take a race seat in Formula One.[2] Indeed, Ocon would only score two points in his ten race stint in the DTM.[1]
Background[]
Following the familiar path of karting, Ocon débuted in a racing car in 2012, joining the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup for the season.[3] After two seasons, Ocon entered the FIA European Formula 3 Championship in 2014, and would go on to win the series, earning him a place with the Mercedes Young Driver Programme and a testing role with the Lotus F1 Team.[3] 2015 saw him progress into the GP3 Series, which would also end in glory for the Frenchman, and saw him join the new Renault Sport F1 Team as a reserve driver.[3]
DTM History[]
Ocon became the latest man to step up to the DTM with the Mercedes Young Driver Programme, when he moved up from being their reserve driver for 2015.[1] In replacing Pascal Wehrlein, Ocon would be the only débutante in 2016, driving with ART Grand Prix alongside DTM veteran Gary Paffett.[1]
