Fabio Luca Scherer (born 13 June 1999 in Engelberg, Obwalden, Switzerland), is a Swiss racing driver, who competes in the 2020 DMSB Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters Championship for Audi Sport Team WRT.[1] A former campaigner in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship, Scherer got his chance to join the DTM after impressing at the 2019 Rookie Test.[2]
Background[]
Scherer's career began in karting in his native Switzerland at the age of eight, and would compete until the end of 2015.[3] 2016 saw Scherer enter single-seater racing for the first time, taking seats in the ADAC Formula 4 Championship as well as its Italian counterpart.[3] Scherer scored one win in the former en-route to seventeenth in the Championship, before ending the season with a campaign in the Formula 4 UAE Championship.[3]
Evolution Evaluations: 2017 - 2019[]
After claiming eighth in UAE F4, Scherer completed a second season in ADAC F4, and duly improved to fifth in the Championship with a single win.[3] That earned him a promotion to the FIA Formula 3 European Championship, with the Swiss racer enjoying a strong mid-season run to fourteenth with a single podium.[3] As a result, Scherer was able to secure a seat in the new FIA Formula 3 Championship for 2019, as the GP3 Series and European F3 merged.[3]
Scherer would have a quiet sophomore season in F3 in 2019, claiming several points finishes en-route to seventeenth in the Championship.[3]
DTM History[]
Scherer was signed up to the Audi Sport Team WRT squad ahead of the 2020 DMSB Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters Championship, after impressing at the 2019 Rookie Test for Audi.[1]
