Luca Stolz (born 29 July 1995 in Kirchen, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany) is a German racing driver, who competed in the 2021 DMSB Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters Championship with Mercedes-AMG Team Toksport WRT.[1] A guest driver for two races in the 2021 season, Stolz would narrowly miss out on a podium in his debut race, receiving a post-race penalty for hitting a mechanic in the pitlane.[2]
Background[]
Starting his career in karting in the Belgian Karting Championship, Stolz would graduate to car racing in 2011, entering the ADAC Formel Masters.[3] Finishing twelfth in his rookie season, Stolz moved into the German F3 Championship in 2012, winning five races in the Trophy class.[3] In 2013 Stolz moved into sports car racing with a seat in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany, finishing twentieth, while also making two appearances in the FFSA GT Championship.[3]
Protégé and Performer: 2014 - 2020[]
2014 saw Stolz enter the Blancpain GT Sprint Series midway through the season, alongside a campaign in the ADAC GT Masters.[3] An impressive run in Blancpain saw Stolz and teammate Lucas Wolf finish second in the Silver Cup class despite missing part of the season, although for 2015 Stolz would only compete in GT Masters.[3] 2016 saw Stolz secure a place in the Lamborghini GT3 Junior Programme, winning the Silver Cup class in Blancpain with their backing.[3]
The following season saw Stolz leave the Lamborghini programme to join the roster of Mercedes-AMG GT3 drivers, whom placed the German youth in the GT Masters and the Endurance Cup in Blancpain.[3] The 2018 season saw Stolz claim the Endurance Cup title at the second attempt, while also getting a partial campaign in the IMSA WeatherTech Championship and the GT Masters.[3] A similarly varied 2019 campaign saw Stolz finish as runner-up in the Sprint Cup and third in the Endurance Cup, while also claiming one win in the SPX class of the Nürburgring Endurance Series.[3]
The 2020 season saw Stolz finish third in the condensed GT Masters campaign, with other outings in the 24H Series and Intercontinental GT Challenge.[3]
DTM History[]
Stolz would secure his DMSB Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters Championship debut during the 2021 season, as Toksport WRT joined the series as a guest entry ahead of the 2021 Nürburgring Race 1.[1] An impressive debut saw Stolz claim second after a barnstorming start, although the German racer was given a post-race time penalty for hitting a member of the GruppeM Racing pit crew during his stop, dumping him back to ninth.[2] A more disappointing Second Race would follow for Stolz, with the German racer retiring early on with damage.[4]
