Stefan Mücke (born 22 November 1981 in West Berlin, Brandenburg, West Germany) is a German racing driver, who competed in the DMSB Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters between 2002 and 2006.[1] The son of Mücke Motorsport team owner Peter Mücke, Mücke would gain a reputation for being an aggressive racer, as he only claimed a handful of points finishes.[2]
Mücke made his debut in 2002, joining Mercedes backed Team Rosberg, partnering Christijan Albers for the season.[1] Yet, Mücke would fail to score at all during his maiden campaign, finishing twentieth with a best finish of eighth at the 2002 Hockenheim Finale Feature Race.[3]
For 2003 Mücke would remain with Team Rosberg, although would get new teammates in the form of Patrick Huisman and Gary Paffett.[4] Yet, the German racer would again fail to score in his sophomore season, again finishing in twentieth in the Championship.[5]
Mercedes moved Mücke to Persson Motorsport for the 2004, with the German racer duly claiming his maiden points finish at the 2004 Adria Race.[6] Yet, while that would be his only point score of the campaign, it would ensure that he finished ahead of teammate Markus Winkelhock.[6]
With Mücke Motorsport entering the DTM in 2005 there was little surprise that Mücke moved to his father's team, partnering Alexandros Margaritis.[7] An impressive start saw Mücke open the season with two points finishes, although he would ultimately slip to eighteenth in the title hunt by the end of the season.[8]
Remaining with Mücke Motorsport but with a new teammate in the form of Daniel la Rosa, Mücke would have a stronger season in 2006, claiming a best finish of fourth at the Norisring.[2] That duly translated to a best end-of-season finish of twelfth in the Championship, although the German racer would quit the Series at the end of the season.[9]
After leaving the DTM, Mücke would become a factory driver for Aston Martin and later Ford in sports car racing, notably finishing in third in the 2013 FIA World Endurance Championship with the former.[10]
Background[]
Mücke's career began in karting in the freshly reunified Germany, before he claimed his first race seat in 1998, signing up to the Formula BMW ADAC Championship.[10] An impressive maiden campaign saw Mücke claim the title with fifteen wins, resulting in him moving into Formula 3 level racing for 1999.[10] The German youth duly raced across Europe in the German and Austria F3 Championships, competing for his father's team Mücke Motorsport.[10]
After finishing ninth in German F3 in 1999, Mücke made it his main series for 2000, and duly improved to fifth with two victories.[10] A third season saw Mücke emerge as a title pretender, with the German youth ultimately finishing as runner-up to Toshihiro Kaneishi.[10]
DTM History[]
Post-DTM Career[]
Mücke moved into sports cars after leaving the DTM, initially joining the FIA GT Championship and Le Mans Series for 2007.[10] After three seasons Mücke would sign up as a factory driver for Aston Martin, before narrowly avoiding losing his licence in 2011 after a collision in the FIA GT1 World Championship.[10] Regardless, he would remain as a factory Aston Martin driver for 2012 as they entered the FIA World Endurance Championship.[10]
After four full WEC seasons with AMR, Mücke would move to the new factory Ford programme in the Series, although he would only claim one victory before the American manufacturer withdrew in 2019.[10]
